Al Overdrive

"Al is a documentarian without shooting like one, and an artist without acting like one." - Dr Matt Lodder (Senior Lecturer in Art History, University of Essex) I see photography as a form of collaborative storytelling - Communicating the energy and feeling of a moment, capturing the essence of that interaction. I approach commissions with a down to earth attitude and interest in understanding your stories and goals. People feel able to express themselves and their ideas freely when working with me, which is reflected in images that have an air of relaxed honesty and empathy. My first book, titled ‘No Commercial Value ’, immersed the reader in a vibrant world of live shows, body-art and the communities built around alternative pop-culture, which brought me to the attention of the wider industry. I've now spent over a decade shooting for commercial clients ranging from iconic chef Wolfgang Puck and Netflix, through to producing concept art for cult experimental labels Rocket Recordings and Southern Lord Recordings. I currently live in North Colorado, and regularly return to LA and London to shoot and adventure.
